In honour and extension of International Women’s Day, Deerfoot City is hosting Women-Led Workshops and activities in the Community Space on the Corner between Old Navy and La Vie en Rose Saturday afternoons in March and April.

UPCOMING:

April 27 (Session 1 of 4):

Learn all about the art of painting a mural from local muralist Jessica Semenoff! This series will be part interactive and part educational, with Jessica demonstrating techniques and talking about her journey as an artist. Guests will leave with a self-created artwork. The Fundamentals of Muraling: Stencils will be held Saturday, April 27 at 2:00pm in the Community Space on the Corner between Old Navy and La Vie en Rose. Register and reserve your spot here.

May 4: Session 2 of 4

Join us for The Fundamentals of Muraling: Paint and Techniques on Saturday, May 4 at 2:00pm.

May 18: Session 3 of 4

The Fundamentals of Muraling: Tools of the Trade workshop will be held Saturday, May 18 at 2:00pm.

May 25: Session 4 of 4

The fourth and final workshop in The Fundamentals of Muraling is How To Get Into Muraling. This will be held in the Community Space on the Corner between Old Navy and La Vie en Rose Saturday, May 25 at 2:00pm.

March 9:

Join us Saturday, March 9 at 2:00pm for a free yoga session with Yvonne. All are welcome. Drop-ins are available, but bookings are encouraged.

March 12:

Canadian sports media journalist and local author Lisa Bowes will be joining as a guest reader for a special Story Time, Tuesday, March 12 at 11:00am. Lisa’s Lucy Tries series chronicles the explorations and adventures of a little girl, Lucy, as she tries different sports for the first time. Encouraging active living, confidence, and curiosity, the Lucy Tries series is a great addition to any bookshelf and Deerfoot City is pleased to share the stories as part of the International Women’s Day celebration.

There will be an activity after the stories. Story Time is most suited for children aged 2-4, but all are welcome. Totally free.

March 23:

Unleash your creative side with a European Hand-Tied Bouquet Building workshop from Small Flower floral studio. Join us in the Community Space on the Corner between Old Navy and La Vie en Rose Saturday, March 23 at 2:00pm for this hour and a half workshop. Small Flower is locally owned and operated by Elli Jespersen, creating rambling, romantic floral arrangements and following a mantra of finding beauty in the smallest things. Come learn the tips and techniques used by the pros to create a masterful, sophisticated European spiral bouquet. Spots are limited for this workshop, so be sure to register in advance. The Easter Bunny will be on-site taking photos March 29 + 30, so there is no workshop this weekend.

April 6:

Get in touch with yourself and how you connect with others through a mental health workshop led by The Cognitive Corner. Taking place Saturday, April 6 at 2:00pm, “Cultivating Connection” is a workshop covering the attachment system, the nervous system’s involvement within relationships. Learn how your attachment systems and mental health impact your relationships as well as how to identify needs. Join us in the Community Space on the Corner between Old Navy and La Vie en Rose for this can’t-miss session.

April 13:

Have you ever wondered what it takes to run a small business or put on a world-class festival? Join us for a special conversation with Brenda Lieberman, founder and Festival Director of the Calgary Underground Film Festival, and Neige and Pippa Blair, the co-founding sisters behind Routine Natural Beauty. We will be in the Community Space on the Corner between Old Navy and La Vie en Rose Saturday, April 13 at 2:00pm. Gain insights into the world of business ownership and leadership and find out about some amazing local offerings, including the Calgary Undergound Film Festival, starting April 18.
